2011-10-18 Construction workers still park illegally
Atlantic Yards / Arena construction workers' continue to hamper the community's efforts to control rats by having the street sweeper clean the streets of the food, trash and everything else the construction workers discard in the community after the arrive & sit in their cars in the morning, breaks, @ lunch & when they leave in the evening.
Residents have complained for months that the police are only ticketing non-construction cars (the construction workers leave a reflective vest on the dash). This video was shot in response to those complaints. The street sweeper @ 12:07pm again could again NOT clean/sweep the entire block of Pacific south side of the street because of the construction cars park on the south side of Pacific St.
Here is the Alternate side parking regulations for the entire block of Pacific:
North Rail Side: No Parking Mondays & Thursdays must be moved by 11:30AM until 1PM
South Side: No Parking on Tuesdays & Fridays must be moved by 11:30AM until 1PM
The construction workers break for lunch between 12:00~12:30pm daily, then workers sit in or next to their illegally parked cars, in tree beds and eat so the entire block can't be cleaned. If the police don't come they refuse to move even if the sweeper attempts to move them by sitting behind them. This illegal parking activity occurs on EVERY Alternate Side Parking day (MTTF)
When the police do patrol, as you can see by both videos @ 12:31pm they scamper back to move their cars just long enough until the officer leaves @ 12:42pm and then they return blocking the street but the sweeper has already driven thru. The answer may be to issue tickets between 11:30am until 12pm & then between 12:30pm until 1pm because the workers should be back to work.
So by not moving the Atlantic Yards/Arena construction workers continue to hamper the communities efforts to control rats by hindering the street sweeper ability to clean the streets of the food, trash and everything else the construction workers discard in the community after they arrive & sit in their cars in the morning, breaks, @ lunch & when they leave in the evening.
They are discarding newspapers, coffee cups, cigarette butts, debris from home, cleaning the inside & trunks of their vehicles & anything else.
Two garbage trucks must drive on the sidewalks to collect the garbage because the construction workers still park illegally & block them. One construction worker has out of state plates from VA. (He’s pictured in the mint Mercedes-Benz)
The police ticketed 2~3 cars only; one is a placard Federal Law Enforcement vehicle.
