Food waste and other garbage is littered in the front gardens of 491, 493 and 495 Dean. In some cases the food waste rests on top of rodent bait traps. Rodent holes are clearly visible. People live immediately next door.
These buildings were well maintained until the State and Greenland Forest City Partners took control of them. Some of the food waste appears to be associated with the contractors working on the building.
This is a sanitation complaint forwarded to me by email (and posted here with permission) from a neighbor. The complaint is directed toward garbage on Dean Street between 6th and Carlton. When asked the problem area the resident cited, "the whole damn block."
According to the resident, street cleaning is either not happening, or ineffective because the vehicles of city employees don't get out of the way of the street cleaners.
man hiding behind the tree had Barclays tags and a nets hat - disgusting
There are more incident reports- but this is one of the report numbers-- this has become unbearable, we cannot sleep one single night for the past 3 weeks.
Tractors backing up and beeping at every minute of day and night. I cannot work from home doing recordings as I usually do, losing time and money, and sleep over and over--
Forest City Ratner Companies/ Greenland / Pacific Park simply ignores Atlantic Terrace-- an 80-family building facing the intersection of 6th Avenue and Atlantic Avenue.
Yesterday Barclays Center's snow removal equipment was dropped off on Dean Street directly across from the fire station. The equipment included a trailer which was left behind. When I arrived the fire department and the operators of the equipment were engaged in a heated discussion. It appeared to me that the trailer left behind was in the way of the operation of the fire house. A fire truck was waiting to enter. The fire truck needs a wide turning radius to enter and exit the house. The street itself was blocked in the meantime.
The crosswalk on this intersection has been unsafe and continuously shared between cars, trucks, bikers , construction trucks and pedestrians. The authorities, DOB, or the developers did not even bother painting a new crosswalk in a more safe location, indicating where pedestrians should cross to stay safeand away from cars. Several times a day there are no workers helping and indicating the way.
Garbage lines the Atlantic Avenue sidewalk from Vanderbilt to Carlton Avenues. The condition of the area is as bad as it has ever been. It includes food waste, glass from broken windshields, and weeds.
The video below and the attached photos are from November 10th but I checked November 30th and the condition is unchanged.

A stretch limo was parked illegally on the block taking up several parking spaces and blocking the fire hydrant. This has happened repeatedly.
