Tracked construction issues

AYW admins post topics here when major construction impacts have been identified through multiple incident reports filed by community members. Community members are welcome to post updates to the topics here (but please don't add new topics).

If you are experiencing a new incident related to the same issue (e.g., late night construction noise on the street outside of your building), please post an incident report instead.

Trucks exiting via non-designated routes

There have recently been many sightings of trucks leaving the Atlantic Yards site through residential streets not designated as truck routes. Although ESDC initially claimed the infractions to be isolated incidents, subsequent incident reports filed with AYW showed that this was not so. A summary of these sightings was published by AYW on August 25, 2011.

This forum will post updates to the problem of ensuring better compliance with use of designated truck routes.

Noise related to nighttime use of staging areas

Although no construction is taking place on the eastern end of the Atlantic Yards footprint, contractors performing night time work move in and out of block 1129 (between Carlton Avenue, Vanderbilt Avenue, Dean Street and Pacific Street) with equipment and materials. Noise from these activities began to be reported in July 2001 (see 172), and in September of 2011, a representative from Forest City Ratner explained to AYW that night time work requiring access to the block 1129 staging area was expected through August 2012.

Rodent infestation

In the spring of 2011, residents of the blocks of Pacific Street and Dean Street south of the Atlantic Yards footprint began reporting an alarming infestation of rats (see 53, 54, 63, 69, 106). Rats were later reported north of the footprint (see 103).

Illegal construction worker parking south of Atlantic Avenue

Since the time AYW was launched in April 2011, community members have submitted reports of illegal parking of private cars by construction workers on the streets south of the Atlantic Yards footprint (see 11, 12, 56, 83, 88, 90, 99, 100, 121, 133, 281).

Noise from late night street work at 4th Avenue, Atlantic Avenue and Pacific Street

Several community members have submitted reports of noise from jackhammering at the intersection of 4th Avenue and Atlantic Avenue (see 271, 273, 274, 275, 276, 277, 288, 289, 295) beginning in late August 2011.  Some report filing 311 complaints dating back to July 2011.
