Illegal parking by charter bus and limo

Location:
Dean Street at Carlton Avenue and Dean Street at Temple of Restoration
When:
November 15, 2012 - 9:30pm

A charter bus from New Jersey parked and idled for at least a half hour at the bus stop on Dean Street just east of Carlton Avenue.  This is a regular location for illegal parking by limos and buses waiting for patrons from Barclays Center.  The 311 complaint specifically addresses this bus in this location.

Trucks queue to access loading dock for Bieber production

Location:
North side of Dean Street btwn. 6th and Flatbush
When:
November 12, 2012 - 11:30pm

Two trucks queued on Dean Street waiting for entry to the loading dock for at least half an hour.  The second truck turned off its engine, but the first idled for up to half an hour.  Only when NYPD asked the driver to turn off its engine did he turn it off.  The first driver did confirm that he came from the Navy Yard.  He wasn't happy he had to wait at the arena.  The trucks finally entered the elevators when two other trucks in the loading dock emerged.

NYPD to allow limos to stage on Atlantic Avenue during arena events [updated]

AYW has been informed by a representative of the Empire State Development Corporation that the NYPD intends to allow limos to queue during arena events on the south side of Atlantic Avenue between Carlton and Vanderbilt Avenues. [UPDATE: On November 13, we were informed by Council Member James' office that the block of Atlantic Avenue designated by DOT and NYPD for limo staging was between 6th Avenue and Carlton Avenue, not Carlton and Vanderbilt.] The section of Atlantic Avenue is currently available for public parking except during overnight street cleaning hours. On Friday, November 9, use of the area was reserved for vehicles registered with TLC license plates, consistent with the NYPD proposal.

Idling of limos in unauthorized locations in Prospect Heights, Park Slope and Fort Greene has been a major concern for residents since the arena's opening. AYW incident reports filed include 945947969, 970, 971972, 973989991997, and 998. 311 closed reports for many of these incidents noting "police action was not necessary," or "no evidence of violation." Idling of limos has also been documented by Atlantic Yards Report.

At an October 16 meeting at Brooklyn Borough Hall, community members asked 78th Precinct Deputy Inspector Michael Ameri to address the problem through enforcement. Ameri responded,"Enforcement is part of the answer, but it's not the solution. The solution is to give them a place."

SIX Idling limos near 5th Ave at Bergen St. and St. Mark's Avenue

Location:
5th Avenue between St. Mark's and Bergen, plus Bergen
When:
November 3, 2012 - 7:30pm

Just on my walk home at 7:30, found 3 limos idling on Bergen St. at 429 Bergen, one of which was in the bus stop at Bergen and 5th, plus another idling at the hydrant at 39 5th, plus one at the hydrant at 53 5th, and another at the hydrant at the corner of St. Mark's and 5th, on St. Marks.

Idling, standing at hydrants, and parking in bus stops are all illegal and problematic.

It is discouraging to call 311 for these items as any police dispatched are unlikely to find them still there.

4 tour buses apparently idle in "pad" all day

Location:
The pad next to 620 Atlantic Avenue
When:
October 22, 2012 - 4:15pm

I was told buses were idling in the pad one hour before I arrived.  Indeed, when I arrived they were all idling.  I was told they have been there all day, and idling all day.

It is unclear why any vehicles are allowed in this location. They appeared to be tour buses for Rush.  These buses were parked at grade with their headlights facing out. They were idling.  They were parked directly across from residences.

For last Babs concert Pacific Street was congested and arena patrons lined up outside 700 Pacific Street garage

Location:
Pacific Street between 6th and Carlton Avenues
When:
October 13, 2012 - 11:30pm

The following link is to a video showing how at the end of Barbra Streisand's concert Pacific Street between 6th and Carlton Avenues was clogged by traffic.  At the same time a long line of lively arena patrons gathered outside 700 Pacific Street to retrieve their cars from the garage.

Loading dock operations spread out to "pad,""uplink broadcast lot and Dean Street

Location:
pad, broadcast lot and Dean Street
When:
October 6, 2012 - 12:33am

As far as I can tell, for nearly every arena event the operations of the loading dock, and of arena operations generally, has been spread out into the at-grade areas called the "pad" next to the loading dock, the satellite broadcast uplink parking lot and often Dean Street between 6th Avenue and 6th Avenue.
