The LIRR railyard was left open to the public and unguarded in two places. This is a frequent occurence in both places.
The bridge at Pacific and Vanderbilt is particularly dangerous. From the bridge it is simple to jump down and enter the railyard on top of what is in essence a short "cliff" made of piles perched over the tracks. There was no guard in the shack nearby.
The gate at the entrance ramp on Pacific is left open more than it is closed, day and night.
